Pt. Sheel Bhadra Yajee was Vice President of the Forward Bloc formed by Netaji and worked as its President in the latter’s absence. On Netaji’s invitation, Yajeeji traveled from India to Singapore in submarine sent by the Japanese Government to meet Netaji and later came back to India in the same submarine to carry out the work of INA in Nagaland, Manipur and Burma (now Myanmar).

Pt. Yajee was a strong believer in the principle of Scientific Socialism propagated by Karl Marx. Although he did not see eye to eye with Mahatma Gandhi as for political and economic principles were concerned, Yajee had great respect for Father of the Nation.

During the freedom struggle and after attainment of Independence Pt. Sheel Bhadra Yajee carried out relentless struggle for the betterment of the labourers as well as the farmers in association with Swami Sahajanand Saraswati, KF Nariman and Prof NG Ranga.

Yajeeji was a journalist, a writer and a thinker in his own way. He wrote several books on the role and stand of Forward Bloc on Socialism, activities of America and C.I.A. in India and the Third World and edited Hindi language weeklies titled ‘Jhankar’, ‘Azad Hind’ and ‘Jamshedpur Labour Times’.

Yajee propagated the cause of Secularism, linguistic and regional harmony and fought against Castism, Separatism and all types of Facism and Extremism.

Pt. Sheel Bhadra Yajee politely declined the offer of governorship by the late Prime Minister Smt. Indira Gandhi. Instead he chooses to serve the people and after Independence, he worked from a very small room situated at Kothi No. 7, Jantar Mantar Road, New Delhi, which was his office-cum-residence. He merged sixteen different organizations and also founded the All India Freedom Fighter’s Successor’s Organisation.
